How to make your own candles
Spring is here and it is a fantastic opportunity to open up and freshen your house from head to toe. Out with the old and in with the new, as they say! With both Western New Year and Chinese New Year out the weigh its time for many of us to get our back to work attitude on. Healthy body, a healthy mind might be one way to put it, but we think that extends to a healthy home also. Now a healthy home could mean anything at this point following the infamous year of strange and unprecedented times that was 2020, but within this context we’re thinking a big old spring clean and deep disinfect would probably not go a miss.
But what next?
With all that energy left over from your super deep spring clean you might be wondering what to do next? No fear, we are here to guide you into an even deeper state of relaxation with some instructions on how to make your own candles.
Candles? But, why candles?
Self care has had its ups and downs in the press but ultimately it remains a key part of how to survive in a ruthless capitalist culture full of corporate greed, whose main goal is to quite literally grind you down and have you burning the candle at both ends. Well in light of this – see what we did there? – we suggest a protest candle making session. Remove your ability to be productive for your boss and hand make an item that is basically completely unnecessary and whose job it is to completely disappear back into nothingness.
And finally… the how to!
Ok so we lied. Candles aren’t completely useless, they can be infused with aromatherapy oils as a way to diffuse relaxing smells around your apartment. They can also just look pretty in the corner of your room – disclaimer! Candles can be a fire hazard, please keep flammable materials away from the open flames.
They are also super easy to make: heat small wax balls in a saucepan and add your choice of aromatherapy oils to scent. Prior to this prepare the receiving vessel with a well placed wick. Once wax is melted, pour into the vessel and allow to cool before reigniting.
