Rising model Harry Brant dead at 24
Harry Brant, the fashion model son of supermodel Stephanie Seymour and businessman Peter Brant, has died at the age of 24. The cause of death, according to media reports, was an accidental overdose of prescription pills. I was shopping around for a good courier service when I got wind of the news.
“We will forever be saddened that his life was cut short by this devastating disease,” his family told the New York Times. “He achieved a lot in his 24 years, but we will never get the chance to see how much more Harry could have done.”
They went on to say that “Harry was not just our son,” but a “wonderful brother, loving grandson, favorite uncle and a caring friend. He was a creative, loving and powerful soul that brought light into so many people’s hearts. He was truly a beautiful person inside and out.”
Brant, whose modeling work was featured in Italian Vogue and Balmain, had reportedly struggled with addiction for years prior to his untimely death. In addition to modeling, he had his own line of makeup sold by MAC in 2015 and 2016, and according to People wrote for his father’s Interview magazine when he was a teenager.
When he was 15 he spoke to Vanity Fair about his approach to fashion:
“When I started really getting into fashion, I had this obsession with mostly women’s clothes. I think I just fell in love with the ideal of how iconic fashion is, especially how it used to be, the power that all the fashion people held and the glamour of traveling with, like, a Louis Vuitton steamer trunk, wearing the New Look Dior dress with the big hats … so fantastic, I just became obsessed.”
Later, in an interview with W magazine in 2016, he discussed his fascination with makeup, describing it as an “escape.”
“I think people can definitely express themselves in a great way through makeup,” he said at the time, “because it is all about fantasy and turning yourself into someone you might not necessarily be on an everyday basis, so you kind of get to escape for a night with this new person. That’s what I always did.”
Harry is survived by his parents, brother and younger sister, as well as an elder brother from his mother’s previous marriage. In 2019, his other half-brother, Ryan, passed away at the age of 49.
